MARLIN MADNESS – AND MORE!!

The Galapagos Islands are well known globally for the unique diversity of land and water animals. A lesser known fact is the world-class quality of game fishing located just offshore of these magical islands. The confluence of nutrient-rich waters brings a diversity of game fish seldom seen in other parts of the world. Here are some of the species that you can hook in the Galapagos.

BLUE MARLIN (Makaira mazara)The largest Blue Malin on record is 16 ft with a weight of 1,378 lbs, but the average in the Galapagos is around 11 ft and 400 lbs. Blue Marlins are known for their fight while on the line and are a coveted big game species. December to July is the prime Galapagos Marlin season. Mid-sized Blue Marlins (400lbs average) can be found in the Galapagos seamounts around San Cristobal and Santa Cruz during this period. We have also found Blue Marlin in the Striped Marlin mix congregations up to September at 0’30’ seamounts. But if you are looking for Grander Blue Marlin, Isabela is where it´s at from December to June.

Isabela is the Ultimate Giant Blue and Black Marlin Frontier in the Eastern Pacific. The waters around Isabela Island have steep drop-offs starting only 8nm offshore. Close to shore it is common to find large schools of Bonito in 300 to 500ft of water and in the deeper waters reaching 1500ft you can find large schools of squid. Prey-rich waters of up to 6000ft can be found less than 20 miles from shore from Isabela Island. These prolific feeding grounds provide the perfect environment to raise Giant Marlin.

Finding Isabela Grander Marlin can be tricky and on a single day you can expect from 6 to 0 bites. For this reason we recommend a minimum of a five day package to improve your chances of hooking one of these magnificent animals. Our fishing techniques include surface trolling Black Barts, Pakula, Koya, Tantrum, Teasers and of course, live bait, and large rigged bait with circle hooks to pitch.

LIFE’s too short to be inshore: We have boated at these locations during prime moon bites with temperatures of 72 to 84F. Contact us to get more information about your Ultimate Marlin fishing charter in the Galapagos Islands!

STRIPED MARLIN(Kajikia audax) can reach a length of 13.8 ft and weigh over 440 lbs. Some animals have been linked to migrations all the way from New Zealand, this species of Striped Marlin is considered the largest in the world and it can be caught year-round in the Galapagos Islands. Apex predators that feed mainly on Peruvian Anchovies, Squids, small Mahi mahi and Tuna, we fish this fast and strong billfish out bound from San Cristobal Island from Dec to June. Heading to 0’30 Seamounts, Española, Rosa Blanca south and north and Oveja Negra.

Year round we chase Striped Marlin out bound from Santa Cruz. On a typical outing, Tesoro will get double digit raises and releases, trolling mainly with rigged chugger with Ballyhoo, circle hooks rigged with Ballyhoo to pitch and bait, and small surface lures. We have standup tackle, Seamount Hawaiian Harnesses, Penn Squall reels with 50 pound test, Shimano Talica BFC with 20 pound test on Connley Customized Fishing Rods. You can even try your own personal Fly fishing tackle if you prefer.

Folks, believe me the Galapagos Islands is Pitch and bait paradise!
